You know you're good when you can re-route ahead of failure
In some cases, if you can create a successor to a feature (one of the most useful examples is a datum axis), you can re-route all the features dependent on another feature.

Re-order the new reference prior to the old reference. Enter the feature "Reroute" menu. Choose to "Replace Ref". Select type "Indiv Entity". Choose the older axis. Replace it with the newer axis. Reroute "All Children".

This will move all children of the older axis to the newer axis. You should be able to delete the original axis without consequence.

In theory, this rerouting can be done with a more complicated feature. Unfortunately, this requires that every vertex, edge, and surface created by the feature be replaced (if they have children). This is a very challenging exercise.
